The Eve Somers Dog Grooming Training School

Welcome to the Abbfabb Academy of Dog Grooming Training website.

Our ethos… we believe that the art of dog grooming should be about the promotion of health and wellbeing of the animals in our care, as well as performing great haircuts…. and that through training and qualification of new dog groomers and their future clients, we can all enhance the lives of the dogs that we work with.

Dog Grooming Training

A little bit about us…. Abbfabb Academy of Dog Grooming Training is a leading UK Dog Grooming School, which was established in 1991 by Eve Somers ICMG, GMG. We offer the very best in professional dog grooming courses which can include a City and Guilds qualification at either Level 2 or Level 3, or both.

We have made it possible for many people to achieve their dream of becoming a commercial dog groomer. Our students come from all walks of life and different parts of the U.K and the world. We have trained people from many work backgrounds ranging from army bomb disposal to homemakers. And they all had one dream….to become a professional dog groomer. If you visit our testimonials page, you will be able to read what our past students have to say about their training here at Abbfabb Academy.

There is no such thing as an ideal age to embark on a professional dog grooming course. Our student’s ages have ranged from 18 to 65 years old.

All the practical training takes place in our modern, fully-equipped salon in Callington, South-East Cornwall, in the beautiful Tamar Valley. We comply with current Health & Safety and legal standards and the requirements of The Small Animal Welfare Act. Training in a commercial Salon will also give you a very realistic insight into the world of professional dog grooming – something colleges can’t offer. Abbfabb Academy is a member of the National Pet College and is approved to deliver City and Guilds Dog Grooming Courses. We are inspected annually by City & Guilds, so you can be assured that your training environment and teaching is of the highest standards. Both the practical and theory elements of the dog grooming courses are designed by Eve Somers.

Dog grooming cannot be learned in 5 minutes. When you enrol onto one of our dog grooming courses, you will be investing not only money, but your time and effort. At Abbfabb Academy of Dog Grooming Training we believe that in order for you to gain the maximum return for your fees, the training process must be done at a pace which allows you to actually absorb and use what you have learned, rather than just having boxes ticked.

When you open your own salon, you will want to be able to offer a professional dog grooming service to your clients, and this is achieved by having a high level of underpinning knowledge as well as the haircuts you produce.

So none of our courses are full time. Many of our students have commitments such as jobs, children and other things that need to be factored in when deciding on a training plan. We recommend a maximum of two days training a week, which allows time for study and research while attending to all the other important parts of life.

We are mindful of the challenges that adult students encounter when taking a course of study over a period of time. With this in mind we close for training during the school holidays. This allows for time with children and not having to worry about childcare when attending our training salon.

Training with Abbfabb Academy to achieve a professional, industry-recognised qualification in dog grooming is a great way forward towards your chosen career. Age doesn’t matter and you don’t need any previous experience… what you need is a love and respect for dogs, a desire to learn and be willing to work hard.

Being a qualified dog groomer and running your own commercial salon won’t guarantee that you will be a millionaire, but your working life will be full of challenges and variety, and you will be contributing massively to the health and welfare of the dogs in your care.
